Hi gang. As you exhibitors know, each and every show you attend brings new
adventures and truths to light. This holds true for judges as well. With each
show, I come away with a sense of how the club operates and what binds the
members together or what separates. It's rather like a microcosm for the entire
GSD family.
To dwell on what separates is counterproductive; the memorable experiences
are what is important and at this show there were many.
First of all, I got to see Tami Howard and Medussa in fine and fabulous
form. What a dynamic duo these two are! Tami looks marvelous for all that she
has been through
and her outlook is an inspiration. So is the devotion she shares with her
dog. I was very honored to get the "high five" from Medussa.
Then, a young boy, dressed to the nines, approached me with outstretched
hand, introduced himself to me and announced that he intends to become a
dermatologist or a handler...hasn't quite decided. I smothered my laughter while he
told me that he was Travis, Terry Hower's grandson. I was reminded that
things sometimes skip a generation with people as in dogs. Watch out, world....we
have a new handler on board!
During the break, this club gave awards to the Police and Services dogs
in the area. I believe there were about 13 dogs and handlers present to
receive these awards and a couple of them gave demonstrations. It was very moving
and a marvelous opportunity to promote the breed, especially in this climate of
breed legislation. Kudos to the club for doing this!
Lastly, I would like to say that there were several dogs that I might have
preferred had I been able to see them better with loose lead and consistent
gait. You can't competently judge them if you don't get to see them....
My thanks to the Ohio club for inviting me. To Don and Ingrid Smith...I am
blessed to call you friends and thank you for your kindness and courtesy.

Lordy...girls....where did you get that name?! LOL. This is a beautiful
sable puppy, extremely handsome, all male. He has nice angulation, balance,
pigment, good feet and back and displayed outgoing and playful temperament.
This will be one to watch as he matures.

A nice dog of medium size, with rich black and red pigment, balanced side
gait, clean coming and going, good back, good feet, good ligamentation. His
performance was consistent. An overall good working dog with excellent

A medium-sized sable bitch of beautiful type. I love to see a one-piece
dog, working in total harmony with all of its parts, perfectly balanced. This
was "Sage". She is lovely in all aspects and has wonderful temperament.
Because she comes so close to the Standard as I interpret it, she also got the
nod for BEST OF BREED.
